Random House prefers to stay out of the iBook Store
It has been reported that Random House, the largest book publisher in the world like, for one, remain outside the Apple Store iBook not enter a price war originated in the new business model that Apple imposed on the other publishers with whom they are currently working.
Random House believes that this new business will only affect the revenue of publishers. Random House CEO Markus Dohle, did not rule out reaching an agreement with Apple before 3 April, but said he had worked with "extreme caution" because of Apple's pricing policy, with which you disagree.
What we are seeing is that Apple is building its own pricing policy, instead of allowing publishers to set the price of its publications, an issue which I think would be normal. And is that 30% profit on each book to Apple, could eventually become untenable for publishers.
However, even if they already talked about this in the past, Apple supports this model, arguing that the new business that is about to undertake with the iBook Store, will be extremely successful. Apple believes that the new business will sustain itself after a few months and that ultimately will be a much better model than the present.
Even advocates argue that their system is better than Amazon, where publishers were the ones who fixed the final price of their publications, because the Amazon is not assured publishers have always profit, but losses have also been Resgistrar. They note that Apple's sustained viability during the latest years, is a proof that the business model is correct.
